GAZA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- The Islamic Hamas movement on Tuesday reiterated its rejection to the Middle East peace plan of U.S. President Donald Trump, also known as the "Deal of the Century."

Trump's deal, which claims to aim at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, "constitutes a violation of the Palestinian people's legitimate rights," Hamas said in a statement after a politburo meeting chaired by its chief Ismail Haniyeh.

It was the first time that Hamas held a politburo meeting in Gaza with the participation of most of the politburo members, with those living abroad joining through video.

The statement said the meeting was held to discuss the recent political developments that the Palestinian cause is undergoing.

"Hamas rejection to the deal meets our people's rejection," said the statement.

"All indications show that the deal violates our legitimate rights, mainly the right of return, liberating our land and establishing our independent state with Jerusalem as its capital," it added.

Meanwhile, the Hamas politburo announced its support for the Palestinian anti-Israel mass rally, known as "the Great March of Return" starting on March 30.

It also called on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority (PA) to lift all sanctions imposed on the Gaza Strip, adding that "Hamas welcomes all the efforts that aim at ending the suffering of Gaza people."

The statement accused the PA of imposing sanctions on the Gaza Strip and punishing its population as "a prelude to isolating the coastal enclave from the entire Palestinian territories and preparation for implementing Trump's deal of the century."

The Hamas politburo also announced that it will send a high-ranking delegation to Cairo on Wednesday to hold talks with senior Egyptian security officials over the resumption of internal reconciliation with Abbas' Fatah Party, which had been stalled since January.

"Hamas believes the current circumstance is the best to achieve internal reconciliation and real Palestinian unity," said the statement, calling for implementing all deals and agreements related to ending the current internal split.
