GWANGJU, South Korea, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese duo Yang Jian and Lin Shan added one more gold to Chinese diving "dream team" at the 18th FINA World Aquatics Championships held in the South Korean city of Gwangju on Tuesday.

It is the 9th gold for China in Gwangju, as the country maintains the top place of the medal table.

In the mixed 3m and 10m team event Tuesday night, Yang and Lin defeated their rivals with a total of 416.65 points and flawless dives in all three rounds.

The silver medal went to Russian divers Iuliia Timoshinina and Sergey Nazin, and Americans Katrina Young/Andrew Capobianco won the bronze.

Since the mixed team event was included in the world championships program in 2015, China diving team failed to catch the gold medals in Kazan and in Budapest.

Yang said after the match that he felt satfisfied by the victory, as China team has suffered two failures in the previous FINA worlds. "Thanks to comprehensive improvement in the training, we won the gold metal," he told reporters.

Chinese artistic swimming team won their second silver, as their routine "Chasing Dreams" gained 95.1543 in the women's team technical event on the day.

"Just like the theme of our routine today, we are always chasing dream since we started to competing in World Championships," said Huang Yuchen of Chinese team, "We are getting closer to it now."

Russia defended their championship with 96.9426 and Ukraine stood at the third place with 93.4514.

In the women's 10m platform, Chinese rising star Chen Yuxi and her 14-year-old teammate Lu Wei ranked first and second at Nambu University Municipal Aquatics Center to qualify for the finals scheduled for Wednesday.

Chinese women water polo team lost to Australia 14-12 in an exciting and tight game, ranking third in Group D after two rounds.

"We had a close and good game. We made some mistakes in the defence that cost our victory. We should strengthen on that in our next game against Italy," said Wang Xinyan, captain of China.

Florian Wellbrock of Germany claimed the gold medal in the men's 10km open water swimming, after arriving at the finishing point only 0.2 second ahead of his French opponent Marc-Antoine Olivier.
