PARIS, June 16 (Xinhua) -- The United States and Sweden have secured spots in the round of 16 in the FIFA Women's World Cup on Sunday, after defeating Chile and Thailand respectively with comprehensive victories.

The Americans who destroyed Thailand 13-0 in the opening match rotated 7 players in the starting line-up and veteran Carli Lloyd scored her 10th goal in World Cup despite missing a penalty shot in the second half.

The defending champions were three goals up before the break as Lloyd bagged a brace and Julie Ertz also found the net.

Lloyd, who turned 37 next month, became the first player to score in six consecutive World Cup matches.

The United States remained pressure on Chile's goal in the second half, but Chilean keeper Christiane Endler who voted as the player of the match performed well to prevent conceding more.

In an early fixture, Sweden swept past Thailand 5-1 with 5 Swedish players on score sheet.

Sweden almost secured the win in the first half with goals from Linda Sembrant, Kosovare Asllani and Fridolina Rolfo.

Lina Hurtig extended lead to 4-0 after the break. Elin Rubensson sealed the 5-1 win in the dying minutes after Thailand's Kanjana Sung-Ngoen pulled one back.

The United States will take on Sweden in the last group game on June 20 while Chile meet Thailand.
