BEIJING, June 2 (Xinhua) -- The following are the highlights of China's key technology news from the past week:

SMART CABLE TUNNEL

A high-voltage cable tunnel equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) technology and the Internet of things has been put into operation in Nanjing, east China's Jiangsu Province, according to its developer.

The cable tunnel stretches 5.879 km in the urban area of Nanjing. To facilitate inspection and maintenance, the State Grid Nanjing Power Supply Company has conducted digitalization upgrading of the tunnel.

SHARED BIKES PARKING

Bike-sharing companies will charge users a dispatch fee if they park and lock bikes outside parking areas in central Beijing from June this year.

Four popular bike-sharing companies, Mobike, Ofo, Bianlifeng and DiDi, have implemented such a parking rule and marked no-parking zones on their mobile app maps.

RARE DISEASE SCREENING

Chinese tech giant Tencent has joint the China Alliance of?Rare?Diseases to accelerate the study of rare diseases.

Tencent will team up with the Peking Union Medical College Hospital, also a member of the alliance, to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) tool for rare disease screening.

They will also explore AI applications in rare disease diagnosis, treatment as well as the development of new drugs.

AI TESTBED

China's National Supercomputing Center in the south China city of Shenzhen launched a testbed for artificial intelligence (AI) experiments on May 31.

The AI testbed, named Tai, provides the basic environment of AI chips and systems for the research, development and application tests of AI inventions. Tai is capable of dealing with large-scale and complex scenarios.
