BUCHAREST, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dancila on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of snap elections following the party's poor results in the European Parliament elections.

The Social Democratic Party did not consider the choice of snap elections, said Dancila, also the interim leader of the main ruling party, when asked by the media if it was possible to hold snap elections.

She announced late Monday to call two important party meetings on Tuesday, the meeting of the National Standing Bureau and that of the National Executive Committee, "together we will make the decisions, see where we are wrong, see how we can act together."

Dancila on Monday took over the leadership of the ruling party, after party chairman Liviu Dragnea was sentenced to jail on corruption charge earlier in the day.

This was the second blow to the party in a short time after it lost the European Parliament Elections on Sunday, falling behind its rival, the opposition National Liberal Party.

Latest partial data provided on Tuesday by the Central Electoral Bureau showed that the National Liberal Party won 26.33 percent of votes, the Social Democrats got 23.16 percent.

The two parties were followed by USR PLUS 2020 Alliance with 21.34 percent, PRO Romania with 6.80 percent, the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania with 6.09 percent and the People's Movement Party with 5.67 percent.

The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats, the ruling coalition partner of the Social Democrats, did not reach the threshold of 5 percent. Enditem
