DHAKA, March 3 (Xinhua) -- The Myanmar soldier who strayed across the border into a jungle in Bangladesh more than a month earlier has been returned by Bangladesh after a flag-meeting between the border forces of the countries.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in January detained Aung Bo Thin, 30, the member of the Myanmar Army, along the border in the country's Bandarban hill district, some 316 km southeast of capital Dhaka.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Asaduzzaman Chowdhury, commanding officer of BGB-2, told journalists Sunday, "We've handed the soldier over to Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) through a flag meeting."

Commander of BGB-34 battalion Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haidar Azad Ahmed led the 9-member BGB delegation on the Bangladesh side while Kew Wing Ling led the 9-member BGP delegation on the Myanmar side.

Bo Thin was reportedly captured by locals on Jan. 24 while he was roaming around in the hill areas inside the Bangladesh territory.

Upon his detention, Bo Thin identified himself as a resident of Yangon in Myanmar and a member of the Libi 287 battalion of the Myanmar Army.

He also said he had been assigned to duty at a camp near a border point. He also admitted that he fled into Bangladesh on his own as he did not like to perform the duties at the camp.
