NAIROBI, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan striker Micheal Olunga has joined the Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol on a three-year-contract ending his deal with China's Guizhou Zhicheng. Olunga has been confined to the bench for the better part of last season since his move to La Liga from the Chinese Super League last August.

The Harambee Stars forward failed to impress in the Chinese league and was loaned out to Girona FC last season where he scored three goals. Guizhou Zhicheng paid 4.7 million U.S. dollars to Swedish side Djurgardens IF in 2016 to secure his signature.

But the Kenyan will now have a new start as he sealed a move away to Japan, who ended any hopes of Russian side CSKA Moscow and Turkish side Galatasaray might have had of securing his services.

The 24-year-old striker will pocket 150,000 dollars as monthly wages in the new deal with Guizhou Zhicheng keen to cut loses on the striker as they accepted a deal estimated to cost around 3 million dollars.

"First of all, I'm very grateful to the team and the stakeholders who have worked hard to make this transfer to Reysol a reality. Reysol has a good record in the Japanese league from last year, this year they participated in the Asian Champions League," said Olunga.

"I feel that it is a good team, I think that my supporters would like to see me score more goals to help the team win. I came to Kashiwa with high motivation and will work hard in training and in competition so that the club can go up in the rankings," he added.

Olunga has been a fixture in the Kenyan national team with his prolific goals in the international arena.
