WASHINGTON, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The White House on Wednesday criticized a federal judge's decision to temporarily block President Donald Trump's ending of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, calling the move "outrageous" especially considering the ongoing bipartisan negotiations.

"We find this decision to be outrageous, especially in light of the President's successful bipartisan meeting with House and Senate members at the White House on the same day," the White House said in a statement.

Trump met with lawmakers at the White House on Tuesday, offering support for an immigration package that would legalize young undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, known as Dreamers. However, he insisted his border wall plan should be included in the deal.

The president suggested that the package could be reached in two phases, first by addressing young immigrants and border security, then by making comprehensive changes that have long eluded Congress, including end of the family-based chain migration and the visa lottery program.

Trump announced last year he would rescind the DACA program, arguing his predecessor overstepped its authority.

A federal judge in San Francisco on Tuesday night temporarily blocked Trump's action, ordering that the program must remain in place while litigation over the president's decision to end the program plays out.
