BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Vodafone Spain, a mobile telecommunications operator in Spain, has confirmed that Huawei will build the major part of its 5G network.

The company's Director of Technology Ismael Asenjo made the remarks at a press conference during the Mobile World Congress (MWC2019) which opened on Monday in Barcelona in northeast Spain.

Asenjo said Huawei would construct 65 percent of the new network, with th rest 35 percent provided by Ericsson.

"We will continue with the same providers," he said, meaning Vodafone Spain is the first Spanish operator to publicly show its confidence in the Chinese telecommunications giant after security concerns raised by the United States over Huawei's networks.

Asenjo told reporters he believed the "political situation" could have had an influence in some of the U.S. decisions taken in respect to Huawei, but said that Vodafone should base its opinion on "technological and not political reasons."

"At the moment we feel very relaxed", he said over the company's faith in Huawei as its major 5G provider.
