TOKYO, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Tuesday as despite picking up shares on dips following a plunge a day earlier, investors became risk averse as some major Asian bourses lost ground amid trade tension woes.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 26.39 points, or 0.12 percent, from Monday to close at 21,785.54.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 2.49 points, or 0.15 percent lower at 1,692.80.

The market mood was brightened in early trade following Wall Street's advance overnight, local brokers said, with investors buying back issues that had plummeted on Monday due to global trade tensions causing a broad sell-off.

But Asian bourses losing ground during intraday play saw investors here turn risk averse again, with lingering concerns about U.S.-triggered trade tensions resurfacing, they added.

Nonferrous metal, marine transportation and precision instrument-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play, and falling issues beat rising ones by 1,541 to 486 on the First Section, while 69 ended the day unchanged.

On the main section on Tuesday, 1,484.26 million shares changed hands, rising from Monday's volume of 1,372.85 million shares.

The turnover on the second trading day of the week came to 2,529.8 billion yen (22.81 billion U.S. dollars).
